The Minions Movie follows the story of the lovable minions that people met and fell in love with in Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. In these first two movies, the minions were introduced as these intriguing characters and now, with a joke at every turn, finally get their back story. The development of each minion is fun to watch and easily draws the audience in with their cryptic language, squeaky voices, and love of bananas. The minions are a tribe in desperate need of a “big boss” to follow. They can find bosses relatively easy; however keeping one is the issue.  The minions combine all their efforts to serving and pleasing their bosses which always leaves them with misguided assistance, a dead boss, and the void for a new one.

After a series of failed attempts, the minion tribe separates and lives independently. Over time, the tribe is overcome with sadness due to lack of purpose and thus, the beloved hero, Kevin sets forth alongside young Bob, and soulful Stuart on a quest for the biggest, baddest boss there ever was. These minions find themselves at Villain Con, where you’ll have “so much fun, it’s a crime.” At first, they struggle to find a boss they’re compatible with until they finally meet the biggest, baddest, and first female villain: Scarlet Overkill, voiced by Sandra Bullock. All the other villains viciously fight for the coveted spot as her henchmen, but through clumsy luck, Bob came out on top and earned the minions a spot.  And thus the story follows the lives of these select minions as they try to make the best of this new evil boss.

This movie is absolutely, hands down, a must see. There are laughs and twists at every corner keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat. Audiences of all ages are guaranteed to fall in love with Bob’s young and shy, but adventurous heart, Stuart’s calm and cool nature, and most definitely Kevin’s courageous and selfless efforts to save the tribe. The movie is not just for kids by any means. The minions are funny, quirky, and endless fun. This a sweet story of inspiration, teamwork, and dedication.  If you’re in for some fun, check out The Minions Movie when it hits theaters this Friday, July 10.
