Authorities have launched a nationwide manhunt in Mexico for reputed drug kingpin Joaquin Guzman
Drug lord Joaquin Guzman, otherwise known as “El Chapo”, has escaped from Altiplano Federal Prison today in Mexico, according to the National Security Commission of Mexico.
Reportedly, Guzman escaped through a hole in his cell leading to a well lit, ventilated tunnel a kilometer long ,which led El Chapo to his freedom. Guzman was just re-captured last year after escaping from a high-security prison in 2001.
El Chapo is allegedly the head of the Sinaloa Cartel, arguably Mexico’s largest heroin trafficking operation. Guzman is wanted in the Unites States as well on several drug and organized crime charges, but has successfully been able to expand his heroin empire around the globe.
Guzman’s cell in the South central Mexican prison was found empty by guards and issued an APB alert immediately.
