No matter how big or small always be thankful for whatever you receive in life. Some of people have missed that message. This week in sports we dive in to the idea of gratitude and the repercussions from it.  Al l that and more in the Things We Learn in Sports this week.

7) Josh Smith makes a sacrifice

Josh Smith just signed a one year deal to play for a championship with the Los Angeles Clippers. The contract is worth about 1.5 million dollars, along with the money he will receive from the Pistons as well. That totals to just under 7 million dollars. But for Smith it will be a struggle. According to the Detroit Free Press, Smith was quoted in saying that “At the end of the day, you know, I do have a family,” he said. “So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I’m going to push through it, you know. … I made a decision for me and my family.” These are the moment where you know some of these athletes are just selfish. That’s more money than most Americans will see in a life time. This just screams Latrell Sprewell from miles away. For Josh Smith the struggle is real.

6) Footballs around the corner

With Training Camps opening up all cross the country this week, it seems like football is almost here. Teams will be looking to improve to get to another level this coming season. Nothing kicks off the season right like Direct TV commercials. Direct TV has made some amazing ads in the past getting fans ready for the start of the season, and this season is no different. Direct TV called upon quarterbacks Eli Manning and Tony Romo to help shoot a commercial. Check out the two pro bowl quarterbacks in their separate commercials.

5) Another Athlete Another Arrest.

Titans’ wide receiver Justin Hunter was arrested in Virginia on Monday for being involved in a fight outside a bar during 4th of July weekend. Cops say Hunter was involved in a brawl at the Sandbar Raw Bar in Virginia Beach on July 3rd, where a victim was transported to a hospital to treat the injuries. The 24-year-old is just the latest example of NFL players not being able to control themselves once the season is over.

4) The Haters gona Hate Hate Hate,

Boxer Cam Awesome (yes he changed his name to that) won the bronze medal at the Pan Am games this past week. Awesome step aside to do an interview where he declared himself the Taylor Swift of boxing. Watch as Awesome explains how he gets heartbroken in the ring.

3) Shady Aftermath

LeSean McCoy looks a bit paranoid.  McCoy wanted to have one last party before the Bills open their doors for trading camp. Problem with that is the kind of details that were required to enter the party.

Smooth moves Shady, real smooth.

2) What is up with the trick throws

Two guys drew up a play that involved one of them receiving a football after back-flipping off a swing into water. The timing on the play was impeccable. This could have gone bad in so many different ways. Thankfully it ended up just being a cool video.

1) Better watch your tongue.

Colin Cowherd and ESPN were set to part ways peacefully in a few weeks, but that went out the door this past week. Cowherd was fired by ESPN for his comments that he made on his radio show “The Herd”  regarding Dominican players.

Cowherd then took to twitter to make an apology towards the network and those who were offended.

Cowherd is set to sign a deal with ESPN rival Fox Sports, and is expected to have a bigger role. This type of outrage might have a negative affect on Cowherd in his new home.
