Should Ray Rice get a second chance?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a group called “A Call To Men” is advocating that shamed running back Ray Rice get a second chance in the NFL. “A Call to Men” is a national organization that encourages men to end violence against women. Co-Founders Tony Porter and Ted Bunch have worked with Rice since November, and believe that he deserves a chance to redeem himself in the NFL.
“We have been around a lot of abusive men, but our experience with Ray has been tremendously positive,” Porter said this past weekend. “We feel strongly about him having the opportunity of having a second chance. He’s deserving of it.”
Porter and Bunch both believe that their extensive involvement and interaction with Rice over the past nine months have helped in his recovery. Rice wants his daughter to remember him for the good he did for years rather than the night he punched his then-fiancée, Janay, in an Atlantic City hotel elevator.
“He’s held himself accountable,” Bunch said. “He is saying everything that you would want him to say and doing everything that you would want him to do. So why wouldn’t he deserve another chance?
Last time Rice played he only averaged 3.1 yards per carry in the 2013 season, and at the age of 28-years-old it is preceded that Rice is finished as an NFL baller. Teams don’t seem to want to take the “risk” in bringing him to a camp.
Only time will tell if Rice is invited to a camp this coming season.
