A drone containing small amounts of marijuana, heroin and tobacco causes a fight at an Ohio prison
In the latest in series of attempts to deliver prison contraband via drones, a package was delivered to an Ohio prison yard causing quite a stir.
According to officials, the package was delivered to Mansfield Correctional Institution on July 29th and contained marijuana, heroin and tobacco in a box. More than 100 inmates were in the yard upon delivery causing a fight to break out. No inmates or staff were hurt, however, Nine prisoners who were involved in the fight were placed in solitary confinement.
This isn’t the first incident where a drone has attempted a contraband delivery. In South Carolina, police say that a drone was recently sent to deliver phones, drugs and tobacco into the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville. Last year, four people were arrested in Morgan, GA after a corrections officer at Calhoun State Prison saw a small remote-controlled helicopter hovering over the prison yard attempting to deliver over one pound of rolled up tobacco.
Peter Singer, author of Wired for War: The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century, stated;
As the technology spreads, these kinds of things are going to become more and more common.”
