With the buzz of Sony’s SXSW producer showcase performance dying down, Sweet Da Kid’s EP, Your Mother’s Other Son, has dropped and not a moment too soon.

The Jersey native capitalizes on the Garden State’s ability to keep a multi-regional sound, leaving the listener guessing hometowns. On the six-track mosaic, recorded with Grammy nominated producer, Salaam Remi, influences are palpable throughout. From the nostalgic aggression of “I’m Reloaded” peppered with “Brooklyn’s Finest” samples to the southern sounds on “Church” where the Camden MC finds his own tone somewhere between Pimp C and Schoolboy Q, Sweet Da Kid switches flows quite easily.

Though Kid finds his niche in smooth rhymes over haunting beats, the standout track on this project is surprisingly upbeat. “When I Blow” sounds more like the version of “Billionaire” the Top 40 stations begged Travie McCoy to edit, rather than the musings of the ski masked self-proclaimed “Thug Robin Hood” yet, the acoustic strings compliment the day dreaming of an up-and-coming artist from any ‘hood USA perfectly. An EP this eclectic is likely to find a strong fan base in an era where more people have access to more sounds and soon enough, Sweet Da Kid may have to perform that optimistic track in the past tense.
