The official trailer for a new movie, Concussion, has been released, starring Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player.

Despite what has been made over the last few months about Deflate-gate, this is truly the NFL’s Boogeyman.

Recently, notable players have retired due to a fear of concussions, such as Chris Borland, Johnathan Martin, and Jake Locker–all of whom where under the age of 25 when they called it quits.

CTE was found in the brain of Hall of Fame linebacker Junior Seau, who took his own life in 2012. Now the Seau family is suing the NFL in a wrongful death suit.

It will truly be interesting to see how this movie may affect the NFL in the long run. It isn’t far-fetched to think it will make parents of children with pro ball aspirations think twice, if they aren’t already.

Concussion is set to premiere on Christmas day.
