While doing an interview with the Daily Mail, Anthony Horowitz, who is promoting his new novel, Trigger Mortis, spoke on why he doesn’t see Black actor Idris Elba playing James Bond.

Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.

This sparked outrage, and Horowitz has quickly become a Trending Topic on Twitter. Many question if the comment that Horowitz made is racist, being that he describes current James Bond, Daniel Craig, as the “total return of the gritty seriousness of it,” while Idris Elba is “too street” for the role. Horowitz says that he sees British actor Adrian Lester as a good successor.

Were Horowitz’s comments racist? Or did he choose the “right Black man” to play Bond?
