WWE Summerslam
The suspense, the entertainment, the anticipation, the glamour and the glory. As much scrutiny it has faced thanks to the recent news regarding the recent news of wrestling legend Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka or the ignorant and asinine behavior of “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, WWE was able to become the prime example of STILL knowing how to deliver one hell of a Smackdown like event. In case you missed it, Summerslam was one of the most unexpected and hottest ticket in the Big Apple. The venue where Jigga man became the black Branch Rickey played host to one of the most suspenseful Pay-Per-View events of the year. Reeling in a sold out crowd, the WWE Universe was able to witness a new funky but wacky era in the tag team division as New Day (“Big” E and Woods) became the new WWE tag team champions in dramatic fashion. The “Deadman” himself known as The Undertaker was able to regain redemption as he pulled off an controversial win over the man who became the 1 to destroy the mythical, diabolical undefeated WWE Wrestlemania winning streak in Brock Lesnar. Even tho Lesnar made Taker tapped out and the referee didn’t see it, it was good that Taker stole a win to set up a rubber match for bragging rights and superiority amongst one another. But last but not least, the major controversy came during the “Title-For-Title”match as Seth Rollins put his WWE Heavyweight Championship belt on the line against the WWE’s golden boy in United State champion John Cena. With the random help from Summerslam host Jon Stewart, Rollins was able to make history to become the first wrestler to hold the WWE Heavyweight and US title at the same time. Claiming that he didn’t want to see Cena tie Ric Flair‘s record of holding the world title 16 times, Stewart did what he did to protect his all time favorite wrestler. Talk about passion, you have to respect the former Daily Show host. If it was somebody like Stone Cold Steve Austin, I would’ve stole Triple H‘s infamous sledgehammer and go upside his opponents head to make sure Austin 3:16 walks out with a win. But after a suspenseful night in which every fan’s mind been blown away, the WWE did a fascinating job for normal “former die hard fans” such as myself to tune in and to get a nice, raw and up front update of how impressively dope sports entertainment is. With the legends such as Undertaker still wrestling, expect more fans who appreciate “WWF Attitude” era wrestling, to tune into RAW, Smackdown and other PPV events. Next up….Night Of Champions. Best believe I will be tuning to see WWE Heavyweight title be on the line as Seth Rollins go against none other than an immortal wrestling legend, the icon known as Sting. If you appreciate the wrestling OG’s coming back and kicking these new whippasnappers behind all over the ring, give me a hell yeah!!! HELL YEAHH!!!
