The aide of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has passed away. Carey Gabay, an attorney for Governor Cuomo’s administration was hit by a stray bullet while waiting to celebrate the West Indian Labor Day Parade in Brooklyn, New York. The Harvard graduate was placed on life support after the shooting. His family declared him brain dead late Tuesday and was taken off life support.

Gabey’s family have released a statement in regards to the death of Gabey,

“We are saddened to announce that after an arduous week, Carey Gabay, our husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, has been declared brain dead as of late Tuesday,” Gabay’s family said in a statement Tuesday. “There are difficult decisions we will face in the coming hours and days as our family struggles to process what this means for us.”

Governor Cuomo released a statement on his Facebook page on the death of Gabay,

“Today we are all incredibly saddened by the news from Carey Gabay’s family. I ask that all New Yorkers, please join me in keeping both Carey and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,”

The shooter is still on the loose.
