Kobe Bryant was expected to come back this season and provide a jolt to a Lakers team that desperately needs it. After they failed to land any of the big name free agents that flirted with them, namely LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMarcus Cousins, it would be up to Kobe, their #2 draft pick (D’Angelo Russell), and the development of the young players by head coach Byron Scott to turn around one of the most storied franchises in the league.

So far, that jolt hasn’t come, and it doesn’t look like it’s immediately on the horizon. Kobe Bryant looks like a shell of a shell of his former self, and defensively, L.A. looks like they haven’t a clue, and D’Angelo Russell hasn’t yet exhibited the explosiveness many know he’s capable of,a averaging a modest 8.5 points and 3 assists per game. Aside from Julius Randle playing well after missing his rookie season with an injury, there isn’t much to hang your hat on if you’re a Lakers fan. Kobe Bryant knows that too.

Things like this will have to stop happening if the Lakers want to stop the bleeding.
