Yesterday (Monday, November 10) the feisty talent had to be rushed to hospital during rehearsals for her routine later that night with partner Valentine Chmerkovskiy, after falling ill and weak.

After being admitted to the ER and diagnosed with pneumonia, many wondered whether Tamar would be strong enough to compete live and if her absence meant instant disqualification (as it had for past contestants).

While she didn’t make it to perform her contemporary routine with Val, Tamar came back in full force for the group dance.

The judges opted to give a score of 22 out of 30 to “Team ValenTay” based on their rehearsal tapes, saying the footage proved the live routine had promise.

Tamar returned from hospital in time for the group routine, in which she gave a powerful performance though looking clearly exhausted afterward. Her dedication earned her and Val a better score of 27 out of 30. Both scores were strong enough to keep Tamar in the running for the top spot at the end of the season.

Val had positive, encouraging words for his partner, as told to E! News: “It’s clear what drives people, right? And for [Tamar] what drives her to be on the show isn’t the check, she got that, isn’t anything but her camaraderie with me and the relationship she built with me and to see her reciprocate everything I’ve done for her and gather herself and risk a lot of things, including health, to be here, that speaks volumes to the type of person she is.”
