After a disappointing start to the season, the Houston Rockets have let go of head coach Kevin McHale. Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the story.

Assistant J.B. Bickerstaff will take over as the interim head coach, and Chris Finch will be promoted to associate head coach. The move shocked some, considering the former Boston Celtics great just signed a three-year extension in December 2014 and two straight 54-plus-win seasons. According to Wojnarowski, the decision wasn’t an easy one for the Rockets.

Wojnarowski lists Jeff Van Gundy, Tom Thibodeau and Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford as potential options to land the full-time position.
