Missy Elliot has been leading a very quiet life lately, until now..
Missy released her first video in seven years, W.T.F (Where They From) and broke the internet. It was a delight to see the legendary female emcee doing what she does best: making music and fun videos.
She told iD how she felt after the success of her Super Bowl performance alongside Katy Perry, and how Pharrell Williams convinced her to get in the booth:
After the Super Bowl, he hit me up like ‘Yo, what are you doing? I was basically in the house cleaning. I had gone back to my normal life. I was in the house vacuuming, walking my dogs. After the Super Bowl, I’m just acting normal. He said ‘I’m not trying to push you, but people miss you. Do you see what happened out there? Have you seen the charts?’ I think I was still in shock. It still hadn’t registered. He was like ‘I want to get in the studio with you.’ Who turns down Pharrell?
Then BOOM! W.T.F. (Where They From) came about and we can only hope that Missy keeps going in the musical direction.
