Allen Iverson
Allen Iverson is widely considered to be one of the greatest NBA players of all-time. His accomplishments on the court offorded him millions of dollars but also the leeway to get away with things that the standard journeyman player never could. As is the case with many on this list, AI was beloved by fans but his relationship with the media was rocky one. Iverson was known as one of the players who would rather have the ball in his hands at all times, and would take every shot on the floor if he could. Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch’s reservation with the press can be likened to The Answer, who was very apathetic when talking to reporters. Also, who can forget his now famous “we talking about practice” rant after he was chastised for not attending 76er practices. In a classic diva move, he once refused to enter a game when he was told to come off the bench while in Detroit (CC: Stephon Marbury). This was a re-occurring theme as AI further expressed displeasure with coming off the bench while with the Memphis Grizzles, even though his skills had diminished by that point. He later left the team a month into the season for “personal reasons.”
