John McEnroe
Quite possibly the godfather of all sports divas, pro tennis legend John McEnroe was an enigma during his prime in the 1980s. The 7-time Grand Slam singles title winner played with a high level of aggression, being verbally combative with his opponents and umpires. Considered one of the all-time greats in the sport of tennis, his bark was equally as effective as his bite, helping him transcend the sport and crossover into mainstream entertainment, having appeared on TV shows, movies and commercials. With over 800 career wins to his name, McEnroe was envied by other players due to his skill set and stardom but he also had the ability to make life miserable for umpires who dreaded his matches for the possibility of being publicly berated by the star. All of this is was trumped by the fact that he had the talents on the court to get away with it. Nearly 25 years since his heyday, McEnroe is still a fixture in the media.
