Since the release of his solo debut, My Name Is My Name, G.O.O.D. Music prez Pusha T has been teasing the release of his sophomore effort, beginning with photos of a reported 20-day studio marathon with The Neptunes from January 2014. Since then, new Pusha T music has been scarce, but following the release of his scathing new single, the Timbaland-produced “Untouchable” two weeks ago, anticipation for an immediate release of the long-awaited King Push album exponentially heightened.
Well, a new Pusha T project is coming next month, but it isn’t King Push. In an interview with Noisey yesterday, the Virginia wordsmith admitted that though King Push won’t be arriving until Spring 2016, he’ll be releasing a “prelude” to the album, Darkest Before Dawn, on December 18.
I’ve been recording so much—I didn’t want to break up that body of work. I feel like I had the producers doing things that they weren’t usually known for, a little out of their wheelhouse. I wanted to give the fans that body of work. That’s the music I love, and that’s the music that my fans love from me. Instead of having those moments throughout King Push, let’s just separate the game.
Darkest Before Dawn is expected to feature production from Kanye West, Q-Tip, Puff Daddy, and of course, Timbaland.
