The group accused the label of mishandling funds they earned from their comeback album in 2010, and claimed the misappropriation of funds cost them thousands in royalties.

The quartet released InDRUpendence Day in 2010, though it failed to reach charts beyond the number 10 spot on Billboard’s R&B album. The suit filed by the group claims their label fell short in allocating funds to promote the album, which they attribute to its poor reception.

Also included in the suit was Sisqo’s solo project, Last Dragon, which also failed to chart any singles or place on an album chart.

After KEDAR Entertainment failed to respond to the breach of contract, a New York federal judge awarded the quartet $1 million dollars, including damages plus the advances the group said they were promised but never given. In addition to the financial compensation, the judge ordered the quartet be released from the rest of the contract with KEDAR Entertainment.

While the label, owned by music vet Kedar Massenburg, has given a start to some great talent including Erykah Badu, here’s hoping Dru Hill can stage an even bigger and better comeback without a confining label.
