A derivative of Hip Hop, London’s Grime culture made big waves in the US in 2015 with Kanye West’s awe-inspiring BRIT Awards performance of “All Day.” Long before that, Skepta dropped one of the best songs of the year, “Shutdown,” which sampled his friend Drake’s hilarious faux-Jamaican accents from Vines and mini-movies. There’s no denying Skepta’s refined flow and razor sharp slick-talk are worthy of immense recognition. The best part may be his dismissal of arrogant Fashion Week culture, claiming he “went to the show, sitting in the front row in the black tracksuit and it’s shutdown.” Boy better know.
