On “Smile Mama, Smile,” Rozay shows us vulnerability. He admits he made a promise to Mama Ross to lay off the promethazine, rumored to be one of the reasons he suffered several seizures in 2012. With the boisterous Cee-Lo and fundamentally sound Jake One in tow, it would’ve been hard for this song not to be among Black Market‘s best. With the gospel-esque chorus encasing Ross’s introspective verses—which also include rare mentions of his father—”Smile Mama, Smile,” despite being out less than a month, finds its way onto this list with little debate.
