D.R.A.M. went from little-known local talent in Hampton, Virginia, unsure as to whether he was more devoted to rapping or singing, to national sensation—thanks in large part to Beyoncé dancing to this very song on Instagram. Still, don’t get it twisted, B’s co-sign wasn’t where the attraction to this record stopped. D.R.A.M.’s obsession with Latin culture came to life on the climactic bounce, which features a subdued set of melodic verses, paced by his boisterous “I like to Cha Cha!” declarations. Also, when you consider this provided the inspiration to our 2015 Hip Hop/Rap Song of the Year, “Hotline Bling,” “Cha Cha” has certainly left a lasting imprint on the year.
