Richard Dent will forever be remembered as one of the most feared defensive players to ever hit the gridiron as part of the dominant Chicago Bears defense of the 1980s. That team in particular was loaded with players who talked the talk and walked the walk, as they not only won a Super Bowl but also recorded the song “Super Bowl Shuffle,” where they bragged about winning the big game before the playoffs had even started.
Recently, Dent spoke with USA Today and gave his thoughts on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and his dabbing ways and wasn’t too kind.
Richard Dent:
It’s disrespect. I’m going to knock your ass out of the game. That would’ve been my approach. At some point in the game — not with a cheap shot [maybe today, but not back in 1985– CC] — I’m going to try to get a shot that puts you out for the day. That’s the risk when you want to showboat all the time.”
“Act like this is what you’re getting paid to do. But these kids, that’s what you get in the Twitter, Facebook world. It’s ‘Look at me!’
Though he is an MVP candidate, currently holding an undefeated record, all while giving back to his community and being a fan favorite, Newton’s celebrations continue to ruffle feathers.
