Making a sequel to a classic album is no easy feat, especially ten years later. So when The Game announced his new album would be a follow up to his 2005 debut album, The Documentary, skepticism abounded. The Game combated that by dropping a 19-track album—and a week later he dropped another. The Documentary 2 proved to be a formidable addition to his discography, chock full of name drops, witty metaphors and his chameleon-like ability to adopt the cadence of the very rappers he’s inspired by. The Documentary 2.5 focused more on the well-documented California gang culture that groomed The Game as a man, and as a rapper. At a combined 37 tracks, The Game never loses steam and many would argue that The Documentary 2 eclipses the very album that it serves as a sequel to.
