Grammy-nominated recording artist, Wale has teamed up with streetwear entity Akomplice to craft a creative new outerwear piece and winter accessory. Revered for his personal style and infatuation with sneakers, Wale chose to collaborate with the creative contingent at Akomplice to put out something more than a co-branded t-shirt. Unsatisfied with merely offering the standard collaboration tee garment and pushing it out for production, Wale and Akomplice invited the challenge of developing a full-fledged statement piece. After donning a pair of ski overalls in Audio Push’s “Quick Fast” music video, Wale wanted to devise his own distinct take on the styling, completing the look with a corresponding ski mask.
The Wale x Akomplice overalls are dressed in a blue, black and silver color schematic selected by the rap artist to represent his Every Blue Moon imprint. The pair features AquaSeal waterproof zippers as well as 3M reflective hits on the knees, ankles and calf. Representing Wale’s Nigerian ancestry, both the mask and overalls pay tribute with a traditional Yoruba pattern emblazoned in 3M on the overall’s straps and across the mask. A proponent of individuality in the arena of fashion, the colloborative apparel piece and mask accessory embodies Wale’s need for consistently unique threads. With this collaboration, Akomplice produced a pair of innovative statements pieces for the culture that also possess the technical prowess for the outdoors. The project will release on the Akomplice Webstore Saturday the 26th at 2:06pm EST.
