Investigators are now saying that a fire that broke out at a mosque on Christmas Day was intentionally set.
The Savoy Mosque in Houston, Texas went up in flames during the afternoon around 2:45 p.m., damaged extensively by the two alarm fire.
There were no reported injuries from the blaze. Some 200 individuals occupied the mosque only an hour before the fire took place.
Initially, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives dunbend the fire as being suspicious due to multiple points of origin, ruling it as “incendiary”, meaning any accidental or natural causes were ruled out.
While there have been no arrests, the ATF, FBI, and Houston police are currently investigating the fire alongside the Arson Bureau.
Citing a “recent spike in hate incidents targeting mosques nationwide,” the Houston Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations have urged law enforcement to investigate any bias in the case.
