One of the things that makes the Internet so special is the fact that rare gems from Hip Hop’s golden era are made available for consumption. Such is the case as DJ Eclipse was in the giving mood this Christmas and released an episode of his The Halftime Show freestyle from 1998, which features a rare freestyle from two youngsters by the name of Eminem and Royce Da 5’9. Recorded before the release of Eminem’s major label debut The Slim Shady LP, the episode finds the Detroit superstar showcasing his upcoming singles “Brain Damage” and “I Just Don’t Give A F**k,” then going into a freestyle in which introduces his partner in rhyme Royce Da 5’9.

Fast forward to the 1 hour 27 minute mark for the freestyle and peep some words from DJ Eclipse below.

Merry Christmas everyone! Here goes another Halftime show from ’98 with guests Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ (85:53). Short interview right into the freestyle session (if only cats today were as hungry as the 90s generation). As usual, Riz sets off the show lovely and then half way through I get on to finish up. Always good listening to the mic breaks to see what was going on during that time (i.e. Tramps shows, Fat Beats in-stores, new mixer…thanks Fat Beats!) (52:25). So much good music played. Last mic break at 147:39. Enjoy.
