Last week, rapper King L (formerly known as King Louie) was shot in his head while sitting in his car just before leaving a friend’s house in Chicago. He was immediately transported to a hospital and was speaking with health officials not long after the tragic incident, indication that he would make a full recovery.

Surely enough, on Monday–the Chicago rapper’s birthday–King L was released from the hospital, and sat down remotely with CNN anchor Don Lemon for a brief interview on the events of last week, which very well could’ve been fatal. King L says he was shot at roughly 22 times and struck 7, and mentions that there are still three bullets in his body, including two in his chest and one in his head.

When asked about what’s wrong with Chicago, L responds bluntly and repeatedly: “The devil is working overtime.”
