6. FIFA President Sepp Blatter Found Guilty Of Accepting Bribes
The world’s most popular sport, soccer, or football as it is known around the globe, holds their World Cup tournament every four years, and similar to the Olympics, any city that is chosen to host the tourney is set to earn massive financial gains. In 2015, it was revealed that then FIFA President Sepp Blatter was bribed for a reported $10 Million to have South Africa host the 2010 World Cup. Having already announced that he would be resigning on this his fifth term as the head of FIFA, Blatter resigned form his position shortly after the story was revealed to the public.
Following an investigation into racketeering and widespread corruption, Sepp Blatter was hit with an eight year ban from all soccer related activities and hit with a $50,000 fine. Through it all, he will still be able to attend matches so long as he purchases his tickets privately. Outside of the public disgrace, it seemed like a slap on the wrist for such a harsh offense. Soccer fanatics were outraged as the the world’s favorite sport was at the forefront of a major scandal in 2015.
