Schefter followed up his initial announcement with further confirmation that Coughlin stepped down as coach and wasn’t fired, which is what Fox Sports 1’s Mike Garofalo reported over the weekend could likely be the case once the season was over. In Coughlin’s 12 years at the reigns, he won two Super Bowl titles, both over New England Patriots teams and both with the team’s first-round #1 pick in the 2005 Draft, Eli Manning, at the helm. Despite his recent futility Coughlin lands at #11 on the Giants all-time wins list, and he is just one of thirteen all-time NFL coaches to win multiple Super Bowls.
No word yet on who the Giants are looking at as a replacement.
