Yesterday, the Carolina Panthers beat the Seattle Seahawks to advance to the NFC Championship in a laughter-turned-thriller of a Divisonal Round playoff game. Carolina jumped out to an eye-popping 31-0 lead in the 2nd quarter, but didn’t score again for the rest of the game, and held on to a 7-point victory to earn the right to play the Cardinals in next week’s NFC Championship game.

Naturally, the underlying storyline in yesterday’s match-up was the meeting of Russell Wilson and Cam Newton, two excellent quarterbacks that have noteworthy ties to rapper Future. Wilson of course is currently in a serious relationship with Ciara, Future’s ex-fiancee and the mother of Future’s son, Baby Future, and Cam Newton has recently formed a relationship with the rapper thanks to his relentless dabbing during NFL games–Future recently brought Cam out at a show in Charlotte. Of course, these relationships are reflected throughout the locker room, as Seahawks players have admitted how awkward it is when their team DJ throws on a Future song, while a Panthers player took to Twitter to thank Future for releasing his latest mixtape, Purple Reign, just before kickoff.

Tre Boston is a prime example, and after sacking Russell Wilson during the “laugher” part of the game yesterday, he hit his “Esco stomp,” sending social media into a frenzy. DJ Esco, Future’s best friend and DJ, literally stomped his way into meme and .gif history last summer when he emphatically trotted across the screen in Future and Drake‘s video for “Where Ya At,” and Boston took full advantage of the moment.
