Earlier this month, it was reported Yasiin Bey was detained for allegedly using a fake passport to leave South Africa and he and his family were given 14 days to leave the country. The artist formerly known as Mos Def has remained quiet since the report aired, until last night when he finally broke his silence.

Yasiin took over kanyewest.com and spit a memorable freestyle echoing West’s new song, “No More Parties In LA.” While over the phone in Cape Town, he began spitting bars saying there would be “no more parties in SA” and subsequently opened up about his latest incident. The Brooklyn-born rapper stated he was doing nothing illegal and the “world passport” he was trying to leave the country with for a show in Ethiopia was legitimate. He suggests there are political motivations behind him not being able to leave.

Before signing off, the conscious artist shared some bars he performed for Kanye West prior to his first child North being born, announced his retirement from the music industry and Hollywood and said his final album will be released this year. “I’m retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today, and also Hollywood, effective immediately. I’m releasing my final album this year, and that’s that.”
