Ammon Bundy, the ringleader of the armed militia that has been taking over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon for the past three weeks, has been arrested.
Bundy and four others were arrested during a traffic stop yesterday [Tuesday, January 26] when Bundy and his companions were en route to a community meeting.
During the stop, shots were fired after Ryan Bundy and LaVoy Finicum refused to comply with the authorities demand of the four men to surrender. The shooting resulted in Ryan Bundy sustaining minor gunshot wounds, and an Finicum being killed.
The Bundys and their crew have occupied the federal refuge since January 2, 2016 in protest of what they claim was illegal seizure of the land of ranchers by the federal government.
While Ammon Bundy was apprehended, the rest of the militia remains holding the refuge hostage.
