Supermodel Tyra Banks is a new mother. The self-appointed “smize” queen has welcomed her first child via a surrogate with boyfriend Erik Alsa.
Banks took to Instagram to gush over the joys of motherhood, revealing her difficulties getting there. She said, “The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.”
Banks has had an extensive career in television, as the host of her own self-titled talk show and creator of America’s Next Top Model. Most recently the fashion mogul has been very open with her life in front of cameras. During her time on her now defunct talk show The FABLife, she admitted to having fertility issues. As a result she became very emotional and began crying, stating she put off having kids in her twenties to focus on other things. “It’s so funny when I was 23 years old, I used to tell myself, ‘In three years, I’m going to have kids.’ Then I turned 24. ‘In three years, I’m going to have kids. Every single year I kept saying that. And then after a while it’s like, ‘Okay, now I want to.’ And it’s not so easy.”
Previous to Banks revealing her frustration with having kids, she talked about trying to conceive a child through IVF. “I’ve had some not happy moments with that, very traumatic moments,” she said. “It’s difficult as you get older. It’s not something that can just happen.” Last September Banks revealed her boyfriend Erik Alsa, who she’s publicly been in a relationship for the past two years, wanted a “litter” of children. Four months later and the two are off to a great start.
With a simple photo showing only a hat that presumably belongs to her new baby boy, Tyra has finally reached her own personal milestone. In an interview she gushed about how she wants to be the type of mother where her children “go to her for everything.” Motherhood is sure to be a success like all things in true Tyra Banks fashion. 2016 is looking like a great year for the model already, with the delivery of great news and a healthy baby boy. We can only imagine how fashionable little York Banks Alsa will be!
