Since Dwight Howard left the Orlando Magic, he’s been a shell of his dominant, former Defensive Player of the Year self, and it looks like he may be searching to rediscover his dominant role on yet another team by the trading deadline. Rumors have been swirling for several weeks, but reports today are confirming that the Rockets are shopping Dwight Howard, who appears to officially be on the trading block. Despite his recent resurgent play, the Rockets apparently feel that Howard’s lack of chemistry with their franchise player, James Harden, and his burdening contract aren’t worth having him in the middle.
Furthermore, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Howard has plans to opt-out of his deal with Houston and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, which is when the 30-year-old is likely to seek out a max contract. Previously, the Celtics were reported to be interested in making a deal with Houston for the former #1 pick, but those talks seem to have stalled for the time being. So far this season, Howard is averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds per game so far this season, but has failed to average more than 20 points and 10 rebounds in a season since 2012, which was his final year in Orlando.
