It’s safe to say this is arguably one of the most interesting, impactful Black History months we’ve ever seen. Everyday it seems there has been a headline making us shake our heads or reach for a cup of tea.
We decided we simply can’t wait till the end of the year for a recap on the best movements in pop culture so we’re creating a new “week in review.”

Rachel Dolezal Gives Birth During Black History Month
The 2015 walking controversy that was the curious case of “tran-racial” Rachel Dolezal recently gave birth to a baby boy. While the race of the father is unknown to the public, and Rachel has yet to comment, what we do know is she named the child Langston Attikus Dolezal. In addition to birthing a racially ambiguous child, she reached master troll status by giving birth during Black History Month. We’re sure Rachel is celebrating her new bundle of joy in her favorite month of the year.
Tampa Police Officers Boycotting Beyoncé
In an effort of ‘defiance’ police officers in Tampa, Florida are refusing to work security at Beyoncé’s forthcoming Formation World Tour. Due to what they say is an anti-police message, many members of the police force in the town have the intention of boycotting Bey and refusing to protect her. While we’re positive Bey will surely be able to find security for her sold out show in Tampa, it’s just another reason to grab a mug to collect the tears that are still falling in response to Beyonce’s call for Black folks to get in formation.
Trolls Make Fun of Black MAC Beauty’s Lips
MAC posted the unaltered, natural lips of a Black beauty rocking their lipstick on their Instagram page. Not soon after the image was posted, haters began to mock the full, plump, and natural lips of the woman. Calling her everything from “Fish Lips” to “Soup Coolers,” it’s interesting how so many were quick to mock the fullness of the Black woman’s lips but probably were the same ones buying Kylie Jenner’s lip kit.
J.Lo Twerks To Rihanna
It seems as though twerking isn’t something we’re no longer fascinated by. While we’ve always know J. Lo can dance, the mainstream public is just catching on. With that, J. Lo appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and during one of the skits Jennifer started twerking to Rihanna’s latest hit “Work.” It quickly went viral due to the mainstream’s fascination with both twerking in and of itself, and the fact that J. Lo did it well.
DeVon Franklin Checks Woman Who Chastises Meagan Good
During a stop on the book tour for their New York Times bestselling book The Wait, DeVon Franklin quickly shut down a ‘fan’ who suggested that as a husband, DeVon should make Meagan cover up and dress more modestly. Quickly reminding the woman that he was from Oakland, he said that Meagan can wear what she wants to wear, and that he was going to pray for her. The way that DeVon didn’t even entertain the other woman for more than a split second sent ‘Yassss’s’ going through social media, as women admired the way he quickly caped for his queen.
