Birth Of A Nation, the film that stars and is directed by actor Nate Parker about Nat Turner, a Virginia slave who led a slave rebellion in 1831, is slated for an October release by Fox Searchlight Films. The film, which also stars  Gabrielle Union and Aja Naomi King, premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and will be shown at theaters around the country premiering on October 7, 2016.
Fox Searchlight Films, the film studio that gave up the green for the indie film Birth of a Nation at Sundance last month, has high hopes for the Turner story. Fox Searchlight secured an Oct. 7 release date for the film, a snug date that suggests the studio is setting the film up nicely for the 2016-2017 movie awards season, including the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Academy Awards.
