There was much conversation over the past few weeks pertaining to the quarterback situation in Washington, D.C. The Redskins were in talks with Kirk Cousins in regards to a longterm deal that would keep him in burgundy and yellow. This comes after Cousins performed brilliantly for his last 11 starts in 2015, throwing for 24 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions, along with a playoff birth for the team, it’s fist since 2012.
Today, it is has been revealed that the Redskins have placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Cousins, which would have him remain in D.C. for another year, but he will still have the option to negotiate with other teams. Of course, the skins will have the opportunity to match any offer presented to him. The 27-year-old QB will earn 19.9 million in 2016, a big difference from his $660K salary from last season.
The move also confirms the fate of Robert Griffin III, who is expected to be released from the Redskins.
