VH1 announced today in a press release that longtime MTV News and Siriux XM media personality Sway Calloway has joined their family as an on-air personality and producer.
Sway’s resume is extensive, beginning with his Bay area The Wake Up Show in the mid-to-late 1990’s, which helped break artists like Eminem and Tupac. In 2000 he made the move to MTV, where he became one of the most reliable and trusted voices in Hip Hop culture, news and commentary, interviewing everybody from Jay Z to Barack Obama, and was on the ground for some of the nation’s most groundbreaking and paradigm-shifting events and happenings, from Obama’s 2008 campaign to Hurricane Katrina.
Calloway will hit the ground running at VH1 by working on their Behind The… series, touted as an “expansion” of their widely known Behind The Music series, which looks at the real-life events and backgrounds that fuel some of pop culture’s biggest icons. The new-and-improved series, Behind The…, will “explore all facets of pop culture and its intersection with current cultural and political issues,” with Sway’s help.
In addition to Behind The…, Sway will executive produce other forthcoming specials and events.
