A “lack of evidence” is the latest setback made against Bobby Shmurda’s case. In 2014, an extensive inditement list was formatted causing the arrest of Shmurda along with Alex “A-Rod” Crandon and Rashid “Rasha” Derissant. Shmurda was accused of firing gunshots at a crowd outside of a Brooklyn barbershop. He was also charged with being present when shots were fired during a confrontation with a rival gang outside a courthouse and cocaine possession. Recently another charge was added to his case for attempting to smuggle a weapon inside of jail. The results? Shmurda facing an almost 25 year jail sentence.

Bobby Shmurda has been very vocal during this time. According to TMZ, he blames the severity of his situation on race. The rapper was quoted saying that police have a history of lying on African American males in his situation. The very public trial has garnered the attention of fans and rappers alike. The 21-year-old was signed to Epic Records at the time of his arrest.

While the world and Bobby Shmurda await what he deems a fair chance at appealing his charges, one can only wince at the coincidence of his art imitating the life he is currently living. The rapper updated HOT 97 last year to talk about what it’s like behind bars. The rapper revealed that he was in protective custody at the time before the call was cut unreasonably short. His case has been under investigation for the past two years. While his two million dollar bail still stands, the Hip Hop community is praying for a just outcome in his case.
