Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller wasted no time today, and has unleashed a tribute to A Tribe Called Quest‘s Phife Dawg, who passed away very early this morning. The new song, aptly titled “5 Foot Assassin,” which was one of Phife’s most notable nicknames, was dropped on Miller’s Soundcloud just a few hours ago, accompanied by an interesting photo of (presumably) Mac’s feet posing with a Reebok #5 “Phife” hockey jersey. Mac doesn’t do any rapping on the song, but rather lets his production alter-ego, Larry Fisherman, string together some of Phife’s robust vocals–“1nce Again,” and a freestyle from The Arsenio Hall Show–over his instrumental.
