World-renowned architect Zaha Hadid was pronounced dead today [Thursday, March 31] while in a Miami hospital where she was being treated for bronchitis.

The British designer is truly a legend with her craft and her extraordinary designs include the London Olympic Aquatic Centre. Her buildings have been commissioned around the globe, and she was the first female to achieve a gold medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

According to TheGuardian, her company released a lengthy statement about Hadid passing early this morning. She contracted bronchitis earlier in the week and suffered the sudden heart attack while being treated for it.

Hadid was highly regarded as one of the most skilled innovators in the world today. Many are devastated by her death, with Pharrell Williams tweeting about how crushed he is of the passing of one of the greatest female architects of all time.
