Last week [March 28] in Kenner, NO, three children were left without parents when 28-year-old Dawn Ellen Scott and her partner 31-year-old Raynell Kimbrough were shot to death while sleeping in bed with their newborn baby lying in between them. The motive behind the tragic murders is still unclear and the Kenner Police Department is appealing for information in search of possible suspects.

All they know so far is that a gold vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus, was spotted leaving the scene immediately after the couple was shot. Police spokesperson Lt. Brian McGregor stated that the double homicide came to their attention just after 7am that morning. Scott’s 10-year-old son had overheard the gunshots and discovered the horrific murder scene, before running to tell his neighbors, who alerted the police.

The couple’s three children, aged 10, 2 and a newborn, were in the house at the time of the shootings. Thankfully all three children were unharmed and taken in by Child Protective Services. The victims’ families are understandably in shock. Scott’s mother, Ellen, told Nola: “I talked to her last night…She was good. She was a good girl. I can’t say anything else.”

Kimbrough’s sister, Shaketha, described her brother as “a loving person” that would never “do nobody what they did him.” When speaking to The Advocate she was confused by the awful crime – “And for them to literally put his girlfriend in the middle of this, a mother of three, I mean why?” – and had choice words for the killer: “Whatever it may have been, it was cold-hearted. And the last person you have to answer to is God, and he’s going to handle it…Whoever you may be.”
