Last night [Tuesday, April 5] BET and Black Girls Rock, Inc celebrated their 10th anniversary by honoring barrier-breaking Black women at the New Jersey Performance Arts Center in Newark, NJ.

Honorees including Rihanna, Shonda Rhimes, ‘Black Lives Matter’ founders Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors, Danai Gurira, Amandla Stenberg and living legend Gladys Knight received awards and imparted their wisdom to women of color all over the world.

Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation as she took to the stage to introduce the event’s founder, Beverly Bond. “The entire world knows what you know, and that is, Black girls rock!” Mrs. Clinton exclaimed enthusiastically.

Also in attendance were some of today’s most prominent and influential women, such as show host and actress Tracee Ellis Ross, WEEN Academy Founder Valeisha Butterfield-Jones, actress Naturi Naughton, rapper Rah Digga, journalist Sharon Carpenter, Fashion Bomb Daily’s Claire Sulmers and the iconic Cicely Tyson, who shared powerful words of advice with HERSource on the red carpet.

“Learn your craft and never stop studying. Its the most important thing you can do no matter your profession. Once you have that up here, sky’s the limit.”
