Tracy McGrady was one of the best players of his generation, and at one point was considered the biggest challenger to Kobe Bryant‘s unanimous crown as the league’s best. However, injuries and insufficient supporting casts resulted in McGrady never seeing the playoff or NBA Finals glory the Mamba did, and after brief stints with several teams–including the Knicks, Hawks and Spurs–in his later years, eventually called it quits in 2013. He would never make it out of the first round in the playoffs*, despite qualifying for the postseason with the Raptors, Magic and Rockets in his prime years.

Robert Horry on the other hand, never had the starpower or playmaking ability that McGrady had, but he always managed to find himself on a winning team. Despite modest career averages of 7 points and 5 rebounds per game, Horry won a whopping seven NBA titles, including clutch performances during the Lakers three-peat from 2000-2002.

During an ESPN segment today, T-Mac made the mistake of asking Robert Horry for one of his championship rings, and Horry, ever the competitor, reminded McGrady that he had to “earn” his rings. Of course, McGrady was just joking, but Horry’s clapback seemed to send him into a depressing, pensive abyss, as he was reminded of all the times he tried to hard to get out of the first round, including that especially painful experience of watching a 3-1 series lead slip away against the Pistons in 2002.

Watch the cringe-worthy clip above.

*Technically, he was on a Spurs team that made it past the first round, but he didn’t play at all.
