As he gears up for his bout with Ovince St. Preux at UFC 197, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones appeared on the new episode of UFC 197 Embedded and revealed that he abstains from sex with his wife in the months leading up to a fight. The theory of abstaining from sex isn’t uncommon, as boxers have traditionally been known to use abstinence as a method to preserve their strength for a fight.

That theory seems to have been put to the test by fellow UFC stars Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor, both of whom say they fall on the other side of the fence, choosing to have as much sex as possible. Needless to say, both fighters who were previously undefeated, lost their last fights. Speaking with Embedded, Jones was showing off his New Mexico home and gave the details when he arrived at the room where he sleeps during training months.

“This is where I have been living for the last, about, month. I tend not to sleep with my wife leading up to a fight. I like to be as Spartan as possible.”
