Last year was huge for people of color and TIME flawlessly captured the essence of 2015 with the release of their “Top 100 Influential People” list.
The list, comprised of the top 100 people in five categories including Artistry, Icons, Titans, Pioneers and Leaders, features some of the biggest names in the world. This year’s list, released today [Thursday, April 21] includes some of last year’s biggest stars including Idris Elba, Nicki Minaj, Taraji P. Henson, Ryan Coogler, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ariana Grande and Kendrick Lamar among others.
If you thought the list was epic, TIME has also released the official covers for the “Top 100” issue, of which only six of the celebrities were chosen for the cover. This year’s selected covers include Nicki Minaj, Leonado DiCaprio, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, Christine Lagarde and Priyanka Chopra.
In the article penned by YMCMB leader Lil Wayne, Weezy credits Nicki Minaj for not only setting the bar high for women, but men as well.
“Her work ethic speaks volumes and has yielded these results,” Lil’ Wayne wrote. “The scary thing is she’s still going. Ha! Nicki Minaj will go down as one of the best to do it in the history of music.”
In a video interview with TIME, Nicki discussed her opinions on equal pay and she feels women should “be direct about how much they feel they are due.”
“One thing I learned along the way in business is the necessity for you to be unapologetic about asking for how much money you deserve,” Nicki said. “At a very early stage in my rap career, I was making six figures for shows…If I heard there was another rapper making that, I thought, ‘you know what? I get out there and demand or command a crowd. I get out there and make my fans happy. I get out there and give a real show. I want that, too.’ And I pushed myself to be better with my showmanship, but I also decided, you know what? I want to be compensated well.”
