As social media pages began to fill with touching tributes to the late Prince, Jennifer Hudson gave a moving live tribute to Prince on Thursday night.
Following her show with the rest of the cast during the musical The Color Purple, Hudson took the time to honor the music legend in song.
“I did not expect to have to speak on tonight, but God has his way. Today, we lost a legend.”

She shared a story of the time that she met Prince, and then proceeded to slay a rendition of “Purple Rain” as only she could. Accompanied by the rest of the Broadway cast, we’re sure J. Hud’s tribute is the first of many that will dedicated to the singer.
