Isaiah Thomas is the 5-foot-9 point guard sensation for the Boston Celtics that was named to his first All-Star game this year, and had quite possibly the best little-guy season ever. Before a pivotal Game 3 against the Atlanta Hawks, to whom the Celtics trailed in their opening round series 2-0, he got a text from a guy who knows a thing or two about being a prolific little-guy player: Allen Iverson.

After his career-high 42 points powered the Celtics to a Game 3 victory in Boston, Thomas shared with MassLive.com that that he received quite the inspirational text from A.I. before tip-off.

“Allen Iverson just said, ‘Keep fighting; (the Hawks) did what they were supposed to do in Atlanta, now it’s time for you guys to take advantage of being at home.”

A.I. of course was named to the Hall of Fame earlier this month, and led the 76ers on one of the most mesmerizing playoff runs in NBA history in 2001, though a powerhouse Lakers team ultimately prevailed. A.I. was considered a little-guy back then, and Thomas is, on paper, a whole 2 inches shorter. Still, he’s killing it, and with another performance like Friday’s, the Hawks will be in trouble come Game 4, which is tomorrow.
