iLoveMakonnen is no longer signed to OVO Sound, a move that many saw coming after the label opted not to promote a considerable amount of his releases, and Makonnen didn’t appear with the rest of OVO at their surprise Fader Fort set during SxSW.
Since then, despite severing ties with OVO, Makonnen has refused to speak negatively about Drake, even contextualizing the fact that just prior to his signing, in 2013, he publicly admitted not being a fan of the Toronto rapper on Twitter.
In a separate video clip, however, Makonnen speaks a lot more candidly about OVO, saying the reason they don’t “f*ck” with him anymore is because he’s underweight, and OVO stands for “Overweight Only” (it of course actually stands for October’s Very Own). He also cracks jokes about one of Drake’s album cover–likely Nothing Was The Same–calling it “that dumb a** album with the sky sh*t.”
The Atlanta rapper appeared to be joking, especially given his actual statement on his departure from the label was filled with gratitude. “I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future & Mr. Morgan, enough for all that they have done for my career.” The video clip in question is below.
