Headed into tonight’s NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos have a major decision to make. Either trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a deal that has been in talks for weeks, or remain with newly acquired Mark Sanchez. The defending Super Bowl champions are attempting the fill the void left at the QB position since the retirement of Peyton Manning and backup Brock Osweiler’s decision to sign with the Houston Texans.

With the quarterback position the only real question mark for the franchise, it was only a matter of time before Tim Tebow’s name was brought up. As fate would have it, a petition was started on Change.org shortly before Manning’s retirement, asking for the Broncos to pick up the polarizing former QB. Tebow famously brought the Broncos to an 8-8 record in 2011 and helped the team pull off an amazing upset in the first round of that year’s playoffs against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That was all she wrote for Tebow, who never played another official down in the NFL after that year. After being highly criticized for this throwing mechanics, among other things, Tebow was later traded to the New York Jets where he sat on the sideline the entire season. He resurfaced the following year in New England, playing the preseason but was cut after training camp. He gave it another shot in 2015 with the Philadelphia Eagles but suffered the same fate as he was unable to make the main roster.

Since then, Tebow signed on as an analyst with ESPN on the SEC Network. The petition, which currently sits at just over 5,600 signatures, says that the former Florida Gator would fit perfectly into head coach Gary Kubiak’s offense and the franchise doesn’t need a “subpar throwaway from some other team.” Ouch.

Coach Gary Kubiak’s offense would thrive with Tebow under center. He and the legendary John Elway can make this happen. We dont (sic) need a subpar throwaway from some other team, we need an original Bronco who has the fire, desire, and love of the game to play as a Bronco again! As a bonus the Bronco fans would be ecstatic! He just wins, we all know this! #TebowTime
